Promoting Health Equity in Los Angeles County
Our Work
Praxis supports unhoused individuals, low-income individuals, and underserved communities in Los Angeles County, as well as the nonprofits that work with these communities.
We have two initiatives that target groups with specific unmet health needs. We offer the same services to all groups but implement special projects and targeted outreach to assist individuals with a particular community in mind. Our initiatives are Uplifting the Unhoused and Asian Empowerment.
Praxis offers services through four different programs, two direct aid programs and two systems change programs.
Direct Aid
We provide CPR & First Aid classes, along with harm reduction services, such as Naloxone distribution and training.
We partner with family and homeless shelters to certify staff for no service fee.
Our aim is to address the lack of research on Asian communities and improve health literacy among Angelinos.
We work in Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) Prevention through workshops, case management, and community awareness campaigns.
Systems Change
We offer intensive case management for various areas of support, including but not limited to:
Domestic Violence Counseling, Health Insurance Enrollment, Peer Support Services, and Public Benefits applications.
Policy advocacy is essential to creating systemic change for our communities.
We partner with state and nationwide coalitions to advocate for health-related and nonprofit-related issues, and we regularly examine and analyze ongoing policy changes.
Recent Highlights
We offered a free CPR class to the undergraduate members of USC’s Asian Pacific American Medical Students Association (APAMSA). We had a great time training and connecting with community members who were eager to support our work to improve Asian American public health.
Praxis was recently awarded a grant from the Watts Neighborhood Council to provide “Makeshift Traveler Bags” to the unhoused individuals we work with during our outreaches. These traveler bags are solar-powered, durable backpacks with essential items for everyday life. We procure the bags from a close nonprofit partner, The Home More Project. Praxis will distribute the bags in coordination with the Watts Homeless Task Force, who we have been meeting with.
Watts is a neighborhood in the City of LA with many needs but a strong sense of civic engagement. We are so excited to build a long-lasting partnership with members of Watts to support the homeless population in the community.

Policy Corner
Praxis is supporting the reintroduction of the LIFT the BAR Act. This will repeal harmful measures in the “Big Beautiful Bill” that strips millions from their health insurance. We need your help to advocate for our right to healthcare!
